What It Looks Like to Create Stability: One Relationship at a Time

One of our proudest accomplishments has been the intentional addition of Jenna, a dedicated Case Manager. We didn’t hire reactively. We saw the growing complexity of client needs and made a deliberate decision: we wanted a holistic approach that builds real relationships, ensures no one slips through the cracks, and meets people where they are, not just when they walk through our doors.
Our mission at Christian Neighbors is to provide a safe place for people in our community who need food, rent and utility assistance, education, or other resources to help create stability in their lives. As the needs in our community continued to rise, we knew that mission required more than a pantry visit. It required relationships.
Jenna sits face-to-face with clients who carry the heaviest loads, people navigating multiple, overlapping barriers at once: underemployment, no health insurance, unreliable transportation, utility shut-off notices, food insecurity, and more. Her role is not transactional. She walks alongside clients, connects them to resources, and builds the life skills that move them toward lasting stability. And because trust deepens over time, clients open up, revealing needs they wouldn’t share on a first visit, allowing us to help in ways we couldn’t have otherwise.
Her addition has allowed us to be more proactive, not just responsive. Every 90 days, Jenna works through a report of clients who haven’t visited recently and personally calls approximately 50 individuals and families, because sometimes the people who stop showing up are the ones who need us most. Every quarter, she reaches out to all 53 Veterans in our network, because those who sacrificed for our country deserve consistent, dignified support.
That commitment made a profound difference for one local Veteran this year. He came to Christian Neighbors while struggling with addiction, facing homelessness, and uncertain about his future. What made the difference for him was not just being connected to resources. It was the consistent, compassionate case management that followed. Regular check-ins, follow-ups, and steady guidance meant he never had to navigate the journey alone. Today, he is making major strides forward, rebuilding his life, and credits his progress to the support he received from Christian Neighbors.
The true measure of this milestone came into even sharper focus when two tornadoes struck our communities. Rather than wait for people to come to us, we cross-referenced affected addresses against our full client database. Jenna then made over 150 individual calls, one family, one person at a time, to ask how we could help them through that moment of uncertainty.
This milestone has moved Christian Neighbors forward in ways that reach beyond Jenna’s caseload. With dedicated case management in place, our broader team is freed to focus on their areas of expertise, making our entire operation more effective. The depth of care we are able to provide has strengthened trust with donors and community partners who see that we are not simply meeting immediate needs but investing in long-term transformation and stability. It has also helped us to confidently serve clients with the most complex situations, cases that previously strained our capacity. Perhaps most importantly, it demonstrates to funders we have the infrastructure and intentionality to be trusted stewards of investment. Jenna’s role is not just a staffing addition. It is proof of what Christian Neighbors is capable of and a foundation for what we will continue to build.
