Grandparents raising grandchildren
Five years ago, a grandmother took in her 4 grandchildren. No backup plan. No partner. Just love and a fixed Social Security check that has to stretch to cover everything. She’s been part of our Christian Neighbors family ever since, coming in monthly for food, getting help keeping her lights on and propane filled, and filing her taxes through our VITA program to access every credit she qualified for. This year, things got critical. Her home, the only stability those four kids have ever known was heading toward foreclosure over unpaid property taxes. We helped her pay a portion of what was owed. Then we sat down with her, line by line, and built a budget she could actually follow to pay the rest by the court deadline.
